If you were hurt in a golf cart in Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, or on the Fort Morgan peninsula, you do not need a lawyer guessing which rental company, HOA, or auto policy might respond. Lattof Injury Law is at The Wharf — 4593 Main Street, Suite C-204 — facing Canal Road. Call 251-432-6691. The first conversation is free, and you pay nothing unless we recover for you.
Mitch and Ashton Lattof handle these cases. The firm has been in the family since 1952. We keep a small caseload, so you work with the attorneys, not a case manager in another city.
Golf cart wrecks on this coast are not “parking lot” cases
Carts share pavement with cars, bikes, and pedestrians on Canal Road (Alabama 180), Perdido Beach Boulevard (Alabama 182), Fort Morgan Road, and inside rental and HOA neighborhoods where the posted speed and the actual traffic do not match. A cart that is legal in a gated community is not automatically legal or insured the same way on a state highway. Where the wreck happened — the rental driveway, the HOA street, Canal Road, or Highway 182 — changes who may be responsible and which insurance even exists.
We meet you at The Wharf, by phone, or by Zoom. If you cannot travel, we come to you: rental, condo, house on the peninsula, or hospital. Serious injuries from this corridor often go first to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center in Foley. Baldwin County injury lawsuits are filed in Bay Minette.
Who insures a rental golf cart?
There is no single “golf cart policy” that always pays. The rental agreement, the cart owner’s policy, an HOA or property policy, and sometimes a driver’s auto policy can all be in play — or none of them, if the cart was taken off the property the contract allowed. Do not assume your own auto insurance automatically covers a rented cart, and do not assume the rental company’s website fine print is the last word.
Photograph the cart number, the rental packet, the HOA or community rules posted on site, and the road or path where it happened before the next Saturday checkout wipes the scene. We will read the contract and the policies. A recorded statement to an adjuster is not how you “sort out coverage.”
Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Fort Morgan
This is one practice and one office, not three invented storefronts.
- Orange Beach — Canal Road, The Wharf, Perdido Beach Boulevard, Ono Island, Bear Point, and rental communities where carts mix with beach traffic. See our Orange Beach personal injury page.
- Gulf Shores — beach-district streets, West Beach and East Beach neighborhoods, and the Highway 59 corridor where carts and cars share tight blocks. See Gulf Shores personal injury lawyer.
- Fort Morgan — Highway 180 west of Highway 59, west-end rentals, and park roads where carts, bikes, and cars share a long two-lane run. See Fort Morgan personal injury lawyer.
If you were visiting and already went home, start with Injured on Vacation. You do not have to come back to Alabama to have a lawyer here.
Alabama rules that decide these claims
Alabama generally gives you two years from the injury to file suit. Some claims are shorter. On this coast the practical problem is faster: weekly rentals turn over, the next guests did not see the cart that failed, and seasonal witnesses leave.
Alabama also uses contributory negligence. If an insurer can put even 1% of the fault on you, it may owe you nothing. Adjusters know golf cart cases often involve mixed traffic, visitors, and a “quick call” for a recorded statement. Do not give one before you talk to a lawyer. More on that rule: Alabama’s contributory negligence rule in slip and fall cases.

What to do after a golf cart accident
- Get medical care. Keep every record, here and with your doctors at home if you leave town.
- Photograph the cart, the path or road, any posted HOA or rental rules, your injuries, and other vehicles.
- Get names and numbers of witnesses before they check out or fly home.
- Report a wreck on a public road to police. Report a rental or HOA property injury to management and keep a copy of the report.
- Call us before you talk to the rental company, the HOA, or an insurance adjuster.

Golf cart injury FAQ
Does the rental company automatically cover my injuries?
No. Coverage depends on the contract, whose name is on the cart, where you were allowed to drive it, and what other insurance exists. Bring the rental packet. We will tell you what we can see — including if there is no case we should take.
I was a passenger. Does that matter?
Sometimes. Fault, who was driving, and who rented the cart all matter under Alabama’s contributory-negligence rule. Do not guess that out on a recorded call.
I already flew home. Can you still help?
Yes. See Injured on Vacation. Most out-of-state clients never make a second trip.
How long do I have?
Usually two years from the injury in Alabama. On a rental cart, the evidence is often gone long before the deadline. Call sooner.
